Hans and I spent Memorial weekend at Union Creek Campground at the base of Crater Lake. My mom, Krystyna, and her dog, Misha, joined us for two nights.

We spent our days hiking along the Rogue River Trail with the dogs, enjoying the beautiful scenery of wild dogwoods and orchids along the rivers edge.

The dogs enjoyed the hiking, although the heat got to some more than others and Winston was eager to find whatever shade he could to rest along the way during our 6 mile hike on Saturday.

Our day hike on Saturday took us to the Natural Bridge along the Rogue which unfortunately was flooded but still made for an impressive site with the robust rapids there, and a number of photo-ops were taken along the way. And Sunday we hiked up river and found the Rogue River Gorge, which we all agreed was quite impressive even with the high water.

In the evenings we came back to camp and made dinner on the stove and in our camp oven with fresh-baked pizza Saturday night and pesto pasta and fresh-baked cookies Sunday. after dinner we enjoyed each others company while playing our favorite go to game Catan and topped it off sitting by the fire.

We had a great trip and look forward to exploring the Rogue River area and Union Creek more in the future. We will be planning a trip up river in the future to discover the Rogue Head Waters which was snowed over this time of year but we have heard is quite impressive.
