Long Weekend at Woahink Lake

At the end of July Hans and I took a mini vacation to join Jan and Brett (Hans' parents) at their lake house outside of Florence at Woahink Lake. We had five days packed full with with fun times on the lake: going for boat rides, wake surfing, drinking margaritas on the dock, paddleboarding with the dogs, playing board games, going on an intense hill bike ride, and hanging out with the folks.

It was my first time learning to wake surf and I picked it up surprisingly fast! By my fifth day I was able to surf behind the boat without the rope for over a minute which I was very proud of :). We spent every morning out on the lake wake surfing while the winds were calm, and it was an awesome way to start each day of our vacation.

Of course I had an excellent mentor in Hans and one day hope to master the sport as he has, being able to surf smoothly without the rope for minutes at a time!

We spent most afternoons lounging on the dock with the dogs and playing in the water. We discovered that Molly really enjoys boat rides and paddleboarding with Hans, and the two could be found exploring the lake together on a regular basis.

By Sunday I was anxious to get a ride in and Hans joined me for an intense climb up the hills past Canary Road and Maple Creek, encompassing 35.5 miles and 4,766 ft elevation gain.

But the vacation would not be complete without a delicious breakfast made by our own "master chef," an annual tradition Hans started years ago during his summer trips to the lake. This year he chose to spoil us with baked eggs with ham and English muffins, served with sweet potato hash and a side of fruit. Yumm!

Overall we had a wonderful trip and can't wait to make it back to the lake to play again soon. It was a great vacation filled with daily adventures and fun with the family.
