One Year Down

After two weeks of smoke filled skies in Eugene we were ready to escape and celebrate our one year anniversary. However the fire lookout we booked six months in advance was in the heart of the fires in Oregon, so we decided to call the Ranger Station and get an update on what the smoke looked like. To our dismay we were told it was so bad there the smoke detector kept going off the previous weekend. We had a hard choice to make as we wanted to get away. We decided to scrap the lookout we had so looked forward to and scower the Oregon coast for a bed and breakfast, and Dag came though.

We found the Cliff House just outside of Waldport! It was a 4 room bed and breakfast with a view of the ocean and the Alsea River from our room. It even had it's own private deck with the same awesome view, and a mini electric fireplace.

It was also just eight minutes from our favorite restaurant, the Drift Inn, that we had discovered on our mini honeymoon to Yachats one year earlier. After checking in we made the short trip South to have a great meal and forget all about how our original plans fell through.

After dinner, which was generously treated to us by Krystyna, we hung out in the room with an ocean view, made hot drinks, and played one of our favorite games, Caverna for Two.

The next morning we were treated to an amazing stuffed French toast by our host Sharon, the owner and caretaker of the Cliff House, when we discovered she had just sold this hidden gem and this could not become our new tradition.

After breakfast we took a walk up the beach, and unsuccessfully hunted for shells and rocks, while taking time out for the much needed selfie.

Later that afternoon it was time for kick off of the Duck game! We decided to do it right by preparing some Moscow Mules and a cheese and cracker plate.

We wrapped up the day by heading to Newport to have our official Anniversery dinner at a little restaurant right on the water called Saffron Salmon. We had a great meal and when the check arrived we were surprised to find out it had already been covered by Jan and Brett!

Considering our original plans fell through for the weekend and the whole trip was planned in just a few days, we had a great time and neither of us would change a thing. It was a great way to wrap up the first year down and many more to come.
