First Falcon Trip to Fort Stevens

For our two year anniversary, and our first solo trailer camping trip, Hans, the pups and I headed to the Northern Oregon Coast to check out Fort Stevens State Park.

We started off both mornings right taking "glamping" (aka glamorous camping) to a whole new level in the trailer with our newly installed toaster oven. We enjoyed scrumptious breakfasts of pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls, crispy hash browns, and egg scrambles.

We only had one full day in this great area so we had to make the most of it, despite the blustery Fall coastal weather! Suiting up in our rain gear we first ventured out to see the Wreck of the Peter Iredale, an old steel ship that ran ashore in 1906.

We continued our historic tour of the park to Fort Stevens historic military base, just West of Astoria. It was amazing to see this site, part of which was built during the Civil War and kept up to protect against Japanese Submarines in the area during WWII.

We also managed to get a good overlook of the South Jetty and the Mouth of the Columbia River at the North-Western corner of the park. Amazing to learn that the coastline has expanded by over a full mile since the times of the first settlers!

Capping off our day's adventures, we returned to our cozy trailer for a relaxing evening playing a new board game-- Pillars of the Earth, based on my favorite novel by Ken Follett-- as we listened to the rain pour outside.

On Sunday morning we were lucky enough to wake up to blue skies after the previous day's big storm. We took the pups out for a nice walk around Coffenburry Lake bordering the campground. It was the perfect end to a fun-filled trip :).
